Moving to Glasgow

For a long time, Liam and I have talked about living overseas. There was a lot of idle family talk about where we would go, with our kids pushing for Australia over and over again. Well, years passed, as they always seem to do, and we were faced with a sense of urgency as our oldest approaches high school. So, the short version is -- thanks to my husband’s brilliance, Fullbright’s generosity, and old grad school friends -- we are moving to Glasgow, Scotland for six months.

Despite my incredibly long to-do list (more on that later), the logistics have fallen into place amazingly. Our respective schools agreed to let us go and hold our jobs for us, neighbors had rented their house so wanted to rent our house, aforementioned Glasgow friends connected us to a flat there, pets are (hopefully) pawned off, tickets are purchased, visa obtained -- we leave in January!!

So, as we venture forth on a new adventure, I’ll keep you posted on how Liam’s doing teaching at a Scottish university, how my boys are faring at big-city schools, and how I am running the whole show as a mom, student, blogger, exerciser -- wait will it be any different than my life here? Oh yeah, people will be talking Scottish as my high school students keep telling me, despite my insistence that people speak English in Scotland.

Next up, what it takes to organize a family of four for a six month, out of the country stay!
